Dress Uniform Code (Grades K–8)
Dress uniform days are identified on the school calendar and announced in the weekly newsletter, Tuesday Notes. They include, but are not limited to, school photo days and special events such as the Lower School Holiday Sing, Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day, Pansy Day, and Commencement.

Uniform Code
The school administration sets Burke's Uniform Code in consultation with the Parents' Association and the Board of Trustees. It is the responsibility of all parents to know the code and assist their children in following the guidelines.
- For the 25–26 school year, uniform items previously purchased through DENNIS Uniform may be worn if they are clean and in good repair.
- Students are expected to remove any non-uniform items before the start of the school day. This includes sweatpants and sweatshirts/jackets with non-Burke's logos.
- All school days are Uniform Days unless designated explicitly as Dress Uniform or Non-Uniform/Free Dress Days.
- Students must have all the basic dress uniform items and arrive on campus in uniform throughout the school year.
- Uniforms should always be clean and in good repair. Students should not wear torn or modified uniforms to school.
- Please label all uniforms with the student's full name and relabel used uniforms with the current student's name.
Non-Uniform Days
The Burke's uniform is part of the school's 100+-year tradition and supports an environment focused on learning and safety. On Non-Uniform Days, students are expected to wear clothing consistent with this intent, allowing for the varied learning activities planned for the day.
- Tops should not expose midriffs or have spaghetti straps.
- Shorts and skirts should be appropriate for the weather and the day's activities.
- Students should not wear yoga pants or leggings with mesh or cutouts.
- High-heeled shoes, flip-flops, and slippers should not be worn. Footwear should be appropriate for recess and PE.
- Clothing with the names/logos of schools other than Burke's should not be worn unless it is expressly communicated that it fits the theme of the Non-Uniform Day.
Special Considerations
- Students may wear warmer, non-uniform jackets on cold and wet days. They may do so over their uniform layers, but not instead of them.
- Hats may be worn only in P.E. class, recess, or during cold weather when indoors. Sweatshirt hoods may not be worn indoors.
- Jewelry, including earrings, necklaces, and bracelets, should be simple and small enough to be worn for most school activities without safety concerns. Students should be prepared to remove all jewelry if a lesson or athletic event requires it.
- Upper School students may wear Burke's Athletics sweatshirts on Fridays, and athletes may wear them on their teams' game days.
