What do we do when we’re uncomfortable?  We move, fidget, wiggle … anything to calm or squelch the annoyance that is distracting us.  During these moments, we do not focus, pay attention, participate or learn. 

Yet for years, we have been sending our kids to school in stiff, ill-fitting uniforms, made from fabric that is scratchy and irritating, garments that either provide too much warmth or not enough, designed to fit “most” but that actually fit few.  And then, we expect children to ignore the distraction of these clothes on their body and focus instead on the lessons at school.

Academix Apparel was founded on a simple idea: outfitting kids in comfortable uniform clothing for daily wear at school.  Why?  Because when kids feel good, they forget about what they are wearing and focus instead on what they are doing and what they are learning. 

Tradition is important, and we know that uniforms are part of the fabric that is a school’s culture.  But, we wondered, was there a way to keep a uniform looking traditional, while swapping traditional fabrics for today’s modern performance fabrics?  As it turned out, there is.  And kids love it.
